Number matching on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to be enforced by Microsoft.

Understanding the number matching changes to Multi-Factor Authentication

As of the 27th of February 2023, Microsoft is rolling out some changes to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) methods in an effort to make your MFA-associated logins even more secure. Currently, the MFA method requires a second authentication method, and in most cases, this involves an approval request being pushed through to your smartphone.

The update to this will enforce number matching, meaning you will no longer receive the approval request, as seen in the image above. Instead, MFA will now require you to physically enter the MFA number into your approval app.

Completing the extra number matching process helps to increase security and reduce accidental approvals by users.

This is just another step Microsoft has taken to increase security for businesses and users.
